WaterforLifeacrossTheBible and Nowadays exhibition

22nd March, a day among other days where we are to remember the central importance of water in our lives and for the world in general. The more water we have access to, the greater responsibility we have to use it wisely and share it with others who have less than we have.

WaterforLifeacrossTheBible and nowadays is an etwinning project that brings together two legacies from the past to the future: Water and the Bible.

Water in the Bible is associated to different contexts acquiring different meanings. Too much water as in the Flood was far from a blessing to those outside the ark; too little water as described in drought situations led to conflicts and even violence.

Here are photos of an exhibition in a Secondary School in Lisbon, where the two legacies are brought together with work produced by students from different schools.

Water coming out of a Rock in the Desert - A Rocha que dá Água no Deserto

In the desert water is scarce. In a moment of great need for water, God gives instructions to Moses and a Rock produces water for the complaining people to quench their thirst. No deserto a água é pouca. Em momento de grande necessidade de água, Deus dá instruções a Moisés e uma Rocha produz água que mata a sede do povo queixoso.

In this film spoken in English,a woman comes to a well to fetch water for herself, but Jesus asks her to give Him water. She questions the request. A conversation evolves, where Jesus brings up the word WATER in a sense that is unknown to the Samaritan woman: that of LIVING WATER. No texto da Bíblia ilustrado neste filme falado em Inglês, uma mulher vem buscar água para si mesma a um poço, mas Jesus pede-lhe que ela tire água do poço para Ele também. Ela questiona o pedido. Tem então lugar uma conversa em que Jesus dá à palavra ÁGUA um sentido desconhecido para ela: o de ÁGUA VIVA.

Water, a liquid you cannot do without - Água, um líquido imprescindível

One of the things we take for granted is the ability to go to the faucet, turn it on, and drink or use the water that comes out of it: clean water. Uma das coisas que para nós é natural, é irmos até uma torneira, abri-la e beber ou usar a água que dela vem: água potável.It’s just an automatic process for us, but for many people on this earth getting clean water isn’t quite so easy; they have to go to wells, to fountains, pumps or find rivers, lakes...Isto é algo garantido para nós, mas para muitas pessoas do nosso planeta, obter água boa não é tão fácil; têm de se deslocar até poços, fontes, bombas, ou encontrar rios, lagos...It may seem awkward to us, but it is not uncommon for people to die of thirst in some areas of the world or because of diseases not unusually promoted by the little availability of water for sanitation. Governments, Churches, non-profit organizations, religious missions have been helping to mend pumps, to clean waters or make holes to generate water, to create public toilets.Para nós pode parecer estranho, mas não é incomum haver quem morra de sede nalgumas partes do mundo ou devido a doença causada por insuficiência de água para fins de saneamento. Governos, Igrejas, organizações religiosas ou não, têm procurado ajudar a reparar bombas, a melhorar a qualidade das águas, têm feito furos para que água brote ou criado sanitários públicos.
